A humorous distraction

What better way to get over the inane debate and it's even more inane media responses than with a little football humor. Here's a great little bit from this week's edition of Mike Tanier's Walkthrough column:

The Philly Phaithful spent Monday wondering how many defenders the Bears would have to crowd into the A-gap at the 1-yard line before Andy Reid would call something other than an inside run (Figure 2).

Figure 2: Bears 5-6-5 Stack

For the football challenged: that's sixteen players on the defense (there are only supposed to be eleven), all of them shown crashing down on the line of scrimmage (which would never really happen), and number 4 in the middle there is Brad Maynard, the Bears' punter (not a position that lines up on defense, someone who really doesn't belong in the middle of a goal-line stand).

In Honor of the 2006 Football Season

2005

Poetry could not
sustain me through
the dark hours of
the Cowboy season.

When lusty Panther
cheerleaders got
busted, I barely
noticed the void

chicken-scratched
across its once-blank
check
          or how I felt
setup.
