Google Blogoscoped Googles Favorite Words

Many people have Favorite Words and they're not afraid to share them. I have a favorite word, but only as it exists in my head, when I hear it, or read it, or say it (can't do it, not even in a whisper, and certainly not in a yell), it falls apart and depresses me.

Stephen King's Bosox Voodoo Glare

What reverses the curse for the Red Sox? The Stephen King factor. After every time the camera cuts to him, something good happens for the Sox. If nothing else I would love it if the Sox win the series so the fans can stop whining (what will they talk about? Ted Williams's cryohead, I guess.). Try being a Pirates fan in the new baseball economy. Or consider the Orioles, a once proud team stuck with a stupid (in terms of team building) egotistical owner, a stupdily serious, "realistic" bird which just sucks compared to the fun cartoonish character who used to appear on their caps, and in the same division with the bloody Sawks and bloodier Yaynks. (It's not whining when I do it, see.)

Sad Day For the U.S. . . .

. . . when geography tests for presidential candidates seem like a good idea.

from The New York Times Magazine:

Lantos went on to describe for the president how the Swedish Army might be an ideal candidate to anchor a small peacekeeping force on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Sweden has a well-trained force of about 25,000. "I don't know why you're talking about Sweden,'' Bush said. ''They're the neutral one. They don't have an army.''
Lantos paused, a little shocked, and offered a gentlemanly reply: ''Mr. President, you may have thought that I said Switzerland. They're the ones that are historically neutral, without an army.'' Then Lantos mentioned, in a gracious aside, that the Swiss do have a tough national guard to protect the country in the event of invasion.
Bush held to his view. ''No, no, it's Sweden that has no army.''
The room went silent, until someone changed the subject.

Because there are some things that the President, at least, just ought to know.

Hibernation mode

Glad to see that NASCAR got a tax break. I don't know how they were otherwise going to be able to continue to provide us Americans with their first rate entertainment. And think of all the jobs this will create!

Hello hibernation.
