The violets are courtesy of John Keats, from Ode to a Nightingale, "Fast fading violets cover'd up in leaves," while the dark morning sky, though it could have come from anywhere, including the sky outside my sliding glass door, settle into this poem via Ed Dorn from his poem "Sousa" - "slumbering under the dark morning sky // are my few friends."
